Classroom Information
Classroom Procedures:
We teach students that they need to be respectful, responsible, productive, and safe at all times, so that our school is a fun and happy place that all students can learn. This is based on the PBIS program that is implemented throughout the school and our district. These are the four expectations ("be" statements) that all students should behold throughout our buildings and hopefully outside the classroom.
Hours:
School begins at 7:30 and ends at 2:20every day. It is important that your child arrives on time.
Snack:
Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack that they can eat when they are hungry during the day. Lunch is at 11:00 so it is likely that they will be hungry before or after lunch. The types of snack that your child can bring to school include fruits (apples, peaches, grapes, etc.) vegetables, or crackers. Your child can also bring a bottle of water. The following items are not allowed to be in our classroom: juice, soda, peanuts or tree nuts (due to allergies).
Birthdays:
Birthdays are celebrated in our classroom but the way we celebrate in our classroom may be different than other classrooms in District 56. As a fourth grade team, we decided against birthday treats (cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc.). Your child may bring pencils for the class, a read a loud for the class, fruits or vegetables. Thank you for your cooperation.
Lunch/Recess:
Lunch is later in the afternoon this year. Your child needs to wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather (jackets, gloves, boots, etc.). Due to the weather, there may be indoor recess.
Specials:
In addition to our curriculum, your child will go to classes in physical education, art, music, and the library.
Gym: your child will have gym five days a week. To be safe in the gym, your child needs to bring athletic shoes.
LRC: your child can bring home a library book and go to library one day a week. Your child needs to bring your book to school each week so you can choose a new book.
Grading:
Prairie Trail School follows Standards Based Grading. Students will be receiving a 1-5 on “graded” assignments or written comments on non-graded assignments that will help guide towards doing well on graded assignments.
